Vision, Mission & Values

We believe in being real with people. Churches have become increasingly more disconnected from society and what people are dealing with in everyday life. We want to relate to what people are going through.  We want to be a Church with people and a pastor that you can feel comfortable hanging out with, and that you know will be the same during the week as they are on Sunday. This is authenticity. This is real life.

Everything we do is because of Jesus. He is the reason why we are here, and the focus of all we do as a Church. Our Church honours Jesus above all things.

We believe in God’s loving grace instead of legalism and rule-based religion. God’s grace frees us from condemnation and pride. We don’t try to impress God through things that we do, we understand that He is the source of all good things. Grace is not a license to sin, but rather it is the power for true life change. Traditionalism and extra-biblical rules are not part of Calvary.

Everything we do is based in the Bible. We spend most of the time in our meetings studying the bible because we believe it’s the word of God, and God can give us direction for life through his word. Calvary is unique among other Churches because of the expositional way we teach the Bible, and the high priority we give to Bible teaching.

We want the Holy Spirit to be involved in our meetings from start to finish. He helps us worship, understand the Bible, and help one another through spiritual gifts. Calvary is unique because the Gifts of the Spirit are taught and encouraged but not overemphasized or abused. We are open to the Spirit changing plans and programs, and Spirit leading is priority.

Our Church is relatable because we love this community and seek to understand where people are coming from. We want to relate to what people are going through. It’s refreshing to have a Church with people and a pastor that you can feel comfortable hanging out with, and that you know will be the same during the week as they are on Sunday. This is authenticity.

Calvary is a place for both young and old to belong. We want to empower the younger people to have leadership roles in the Church and bring their input and excitement in our congregation. We want to empower the older members to provide direction, wisdom, and mentoring for this next generation. A healthy Church is one where young and old mix wonderfully as family for God’s glory. We will fulfil the Church’s mission and vision by old and young working together.

Whatever we do in life should be done in an attitude of worship to God. During our meetings we worship God through music and song. We put a priority on good worship music so that people can connect to God through heartfelt singing. The music is not a performance, but we always make sure the worship quality is high. At Calvary we believe that worship should be with both the intellect and emotion.

The Church thrives when we have healthy small group gatherings. Small groups are important because they provide the environment for individual prayer, personal relationships, and themed discussions based on the life stage of the group.

At the heart of any Church community is the relationships the members have with one another. We believe relationships should be more than just casual Sunday morning acquaintances, but meaningful personal connections. Imagine Church members hanging out for more than just “religious” reasons. This means we encourage gatherings outside of Church as well as just having fun together. Here at Calvary the quality of relationships is more valuable than the quantity of the people.

We are the light of the world and a city on a hill can not be hidden. We must shine our light in the community that we live in. We believe this is done in several different ways, including helping the poor and needy, social projects, clean-ups, and other practical activities. Christians should be the most helpful citizens in the city!

The main mission of the Church in the world is missions. This means we have a heart to see people from every tribe language and nation come to know the Lord through the gospel of Jesus Christ. We work with other mission organizations as well as designate time and resources toward this goal.

Being known for what we are for rather than what we are against. We must have Kingdom mindset. Working with other believers and Churches to accomplish our unified mission. This means we must have a collaborative attitude toward other Churches, striving for a common goal.
